May 19th was my three year anniversary. Each year, my husband and I take a couple of days off to go hiking.
This year, I’ve decided to share some of the photos with you!
We decided to go someplace new this year — Kissing Falls in Lagro, Indiana. It is a part of Salamonie River State Forest.
I’m sure you are trying to pronounce the word with similarities to Salamon, Salmon, or Salami. Check out this interesting tidbit from the park’s website.
Immediately after we parked, we noticed a little side trail and decided to check it out!
We found this gorgeous, shallow creek nestled within the state forest.
Never-mind the sign that said to beware of rising water if the siren sounded (for the dam being opened)!!
Note — the pictures really do not do this park justice!
I came prepared in my waterproof hiking boots. What exactly does that mean? Water has a gravitational pull on me. My inner child has to walk through puddles, creeks, shallow rivers, the edges of lakes…
So yes, these photos are derived from me standing in the middle of such things. And bummer, it was not warm enough to try out my new water shoes!
It was a short walk to Kissing Falls — a part of Salamonie River State Forest.
This park is filled with rugged trails — lots of steep inclines, gnarly roots to help secure your footing, and patches of clay mud to slide down.
I took slow-motion-video at the foot of the waterfall but Medium refused to allow me to include that or the normal video with the sound of the water and birds. Bummer!!
At first, I found the blue paint on the tree odd. I discovered various trees are marked front and back throughout the forest.
At times there were boards staked into the ground on steep hills, others had cement bricks staked into place to help with footing.
Given the opportunity to look over the falls from above, yes please!
I really wish the picture could show the depth, rather than the appearance that I could simply step down.
Like a moth drawn to the flame, here I stand in the middle of a shallow river.
If it had been warmer and I was able to wear my water shoes, I would have been walking further in the river (up and down the river.) As it was, I had to be careful where I stepped so as not to have a boot full of water. LOL
I know very few types of trees but thought this massive one was cool. It wasn’t so much massive in circumference like many, but it was incredibly tall.
No, that’s not Bigfoot. 🤣 My husband walked about ten feet up the path while I took this picture.
It will probably find it’s way onto my computer at work as wallpaper.
When I saw this, I though Oh! What a tiny shack!
I peeked through the gap on the right to find it housed a toilet.
So, in my curiosity, I turned on my phone’s flashlight, shone it through one crack on the left door and peered through another.
Yup, you guessed it. Another toilet.
Thankfully, out of curiosity when we were leaving, we drove a different way and found modern restrooms!
